Well, we now know why Carl Pelini and and a defensive assistant were forced to resign from FAU. CBS Sports is revealing the reason Florida Atlantic coach Carl Pelini and defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis both resigned their positions over what the school called “illegal drug use".
Now, according to published court documents given to WPTV, a special teams coach alleges that he witnessed Pelini smoking marijuana in Key West on Oct. 19. That same assistant coach also claims to have seen Pelini and Rekstis use marijuana and cocaine within the last year.
Florida Atlantic defensive line and special teams coach Matt Edwards signed the affidavits, along with Allison Stewart, who is described as a person close to the FAU program.
Pelini was in the middle of his second season at Florida Atlantic, and had a record of 5-15. He’s a head coach, role model and parent himself, so he needs to make better choices.
