Rajon Rondo recently returned to the Boston Celtics, and as the season goes on he looks to make more and more of an impact with the offense.

The new team captain for the C's was recently offered a contract extension this week, general manager Danny Ainge revealed. Rondo reportedly declined, but Ainge expected him to.

“In the Collective Bargaining Agreement, there are limits on what can and can’t be done. Really it’s not that Rondo doesn’t want to accept an extension, but it’s just not financially smart for him to accept it right now,” said Ainge, via CBS Boston. “We didn’t think he would [sign], but we did try.”

Despite Rondo not signing the extension with Boston, the 27-year-old told the Boston Globe he wouldn't mind finishing his NBA career with the franchise.

“I like to stick to the script. I don’t like change much. I wouldn’t mind staying here the rest of my career.

“Things don’t always seem to go that way, but like I said before, it’s just a business. I wouldn’t mind extending another 10 years in Boston.”

The Celtics have the pieces to build around Rondo. He's a great player to build your team around, I think. The big question would be is if who would be his sidekick, or his main scoring option?

Boston has a chance to get a guy like Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Julius Randle or Joel Embiid in the upcoming NBA Draft and they may even explore in free agency.

It's unknown yet what the C's may actually do with Rondo. They may just end up trading him for all we know. He's been linked to joining Carmelo Anthony and company in New York, but it doesn't look it could be possible for a trade like that to be pulled off.

Nonetheless, the could the Celtics be planning for getting Melo in free agency? A new dynasty in Boston can definitely begin Boston could get Melo, hook him up with Rondo along with whoever they draft.

Again, it's just a wide-open scenario. We don't know until the season ends, or heck, even when the trade deadline approaches.

As of right now, Rondo indicates he wants to stay and he wouldn't mind doing so.
