Kerry Rhodes was a Pro Bowl-caliber NFL safety for much of his career, so it was surprising to see him not get picked up by any team during the 2013 season. Rumors from many websites came up that Rhodes was gay, which led to many believing he was "blacklisted" by the league due to that.
Now with the recent news of
Michael Sam coming out, many wonder if Rhodes will get signed again. Rhodes, who will be 32 in August, still has a lot left in the tank. He had 67 tackles and four interceptions during his last season in 2012 with the Arizona Cardinals.
Rhodes talked about all of this
in an interview with ESPN, denying the gay and blacklist rumors.
“I don’t think I was blacklisted. Especially with the NFL I don’t think they would do that … to me it was a product of me wanting to do other things and not finding the right opportunity.”
Rhodes was rumored to be going out with Hollywood Simpson, which is how all the news came up of Rhodes being a homosexual. Simpson detailed his relationship with Rhodes, but he denied it. Rhodes mentioned that in the interview.
“I emphatically said no once and that’s all I need to say and people who know me know that’s definitely not the case. To me I’m definitely not and I can’t control but people think, so I move on.”
