James Jones will be one of the top wide receivers among the 2014 NFL Free Agency class, and several teams are in the mix for the Green Bay Packers stud. Jones has specifically mentioned the Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers as places where he'll land this offseason.
"I've thought about places that I would like to go play, whether it's in Indy or there's coming back home, San Diego or somewhere. Teams have popped up in my head," Jones said
on NFL Network earlier this week. "I can't say I haven't thought about it, but in a perfect world I'd love to go back (to Green Bay)."
Jones, as said in the quote above, prefers to stay with the Packers. Otherwise, he wouldn't mind going to a young championship-contending team like the Colts or his hometown franchise in the Chargers.
Jones would fit solid with both teams. The Colts suffered a lot this past season with their receiving corps, whether it was Reggie Wayne being out for the year at midseason or Darrius Heyward-Bey dropping almost every pass that came his way.
Having a guy like Jones can work wonders for young quarterback Andrew Luck. The Colts are looking to invest heavy this offseason when it comes to the receiving corps, as they are also rumored to be in the upcoming sweepstakes for Denver Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker.
As for San Diego on the other hand, Philip Rivers can definitely use another guy to compliment Keenan Allen and Antonio Gates.
But as
ESPN Insider notes, the Chargers have a guy very similar to Jones in Vincent Brown. It is said that San Diego would prefer to keep Brown instead of signing Jones, considering that Brown is the same height at 6-foot-1 and is five years younger.
Then again, Jones is only a year removed from catching 14 touchdown passes with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback. Rivers is another Pro Bowl-caliber QB, so he could definitely provide similar production to Jones, and it's something San Diego should consider taking a look at.
Jones, who will be 30 years old at the end of the month, caught 59 passes for 817 yards and three touchdowns this past season with the Packers. The eight-year pro has 310 receptions for 4,305 yards and 37 touchdowns for his career.
