Portland Trail Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard is about to get paid. According to reports, Lillard has signed a $100 million sneaker deal with adidas.
Per ESPN, Lillard has signed a contract extension with adidas that can go up to 10 years and can pay out $100 million including incentives and options. The new deal would make Lillard one of the highest-earning endorsers in the NBA.
It will be the largest sneaker deal since 2012 when Derrick Rose signed a 13-year deal worth nearly $185 million with adidas. Of course, there's also Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant with their endorsement deals with Nike.
Lillard opted out of his deal with adidas, as many people believed he would be leaving the company for Nike. However, that doesn't look like the case anymore with adidas giving the 2013 NBA Rookie of the Year the big bucks.
"Adidas has been great to me over my first two seasons," Lillard said. "I've had the opportunity to wear a lot of great product, help design special versions of shoes, be a part of TV commercials and travel the world with the brand. I'm excited for what the future holds for me and adidas."
Lillard does not have a signature shoe with adidas, as he has been rocking the adidas Crazy 2 and crazy 8 along with the D Rose shoes. However, with this new deal, it's likely Lillard is getting his own shoe very soon.
Luckily for Lillard, he's on the Trail Blazers, which support the black-and-red color theme. Adidas has done pretty good with those colors, such as what they did with Rose. Plus, everyone loves a black-and-red shoe.
Congrats to Damian on the new deal.
