Joel Anthony was traded to the Boston Celtics at the trade deadline from the Miami Heat, but he has a decision to make on his future this summer. Per the Boston Globe, the veteran center can exercise his player option of $3.8 million or consider entering the 2014 NBA free agency market.
“When the season’s over, I’ll talk with my agent and look to see what we’re going to do,” Anthony said.
Anthony hasn't done all that much with the C's this season since he got traded, since he was new to the system along with Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk taking the majority of the minutes in the center rotation.
“The team, obviously we haven’t had the success that we wanted on the court but off the court it’s been a great situation,” Anthony said. “You don’t always have that when teams are in this type of situation. That’s made it a lot easier being in a good locker room with a good group of guys.”
It's a no-brainer for Anthony, though. He won't command anywhere near $3.8 million on the open market, nor will he gauge much of any interest most likely.
Take the option and make that money, big fella.
