The hot topic of the day has been Donald Sterling, of course, after the Los Angeles Clippers owner was caught saying racist things on audio. The Clippers players responded, and now the franchise as a whole has made a statement on their owner.
Clippers president Andy Roeser defended Sterling in a statement, also saying that he isn't a racist. Roeser also questions the authenticity of the audio recording along with saying that the woman in the recording was accused of embezzling nearly $2 million from the Sterling family.
“We have heard the tape on TMZ," Roeser said. "We do not know if it is legitimate or it has been altered. We do know that the woman on the tape -- who we believe released it to TMZ -- is the defendant in a lawsuit brought by the Sterling family alleging that she embezzled more than $1.8 million, who told Mr. Sterling that she would 'get even.' Mr. Sterling is emphatic that what is reflected on that recording is not consistent with, nor does it reflect his views, beliefs or feelings. It is the antithesis of who he is, what he believes and how he has lived his life."
Roeser says the team is investigating the situation and says that Sterling "feels terrible that such sentiments are being attributed to him and apologizes to anyone who might have been hurt by them."
Of course, Sterling has had a rocky past of being a bigot. I'm not sure there is much out there to defend this man.
