The cuts were made on Friday in the 2014 Masters, and among in them particular was star lefty Phil Mickelson. Mickelson missed the cut for the first time in 16 years, ending his legendary tenure.
Had Mickelson made the cut, he would've matched Tiger Woods' streak of 17th straight appearances of making the cut at the Masters.
This is also Woods' first time missing the Masters since 1994. He had back surgery on March 31. Many were disappointed not having to see Tiger in this year's Masters, and it has definitely reflected on the ratings for ESPN.
Another crazy fact: this is the first time neither Mickelson nor Tiger are in a major since 1999!
Overall, the 2014 Masters was a struggle for Phil.
"Why couldn't I get it going? You know, I don't really have a great answer for you," Mickelson said, via USA TODAY. "I've actually played reasonably well for a majority of the holes, and then the ones that I let slide I end up making a big number.
"So it's tough to overcome those big numbers."
Mickelson joins other big names like Angel Cabrera and Zach Johnson as others who didn't make the cut line. Along with that, guys like Keegan Bradley, Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald also will be chilling at home for the weekend instead of playing at Augusta National.
Mickelson says his game hasn't been as sharp recently and it was something he feared heading into the Masters.
"That's what I've been nervous about, having a hole like (No.) 7 yesterday, a hole like 12 today, where I go along, making pars, putting the ball in the right spot and you just get a bad situation," Mickelson said. "And instead of one (shot) sliding, two or three are going away.
"That's the kind of stuff when you're playing tournament golf and you're mentally sharp, you don't do," he added. "And that's the kind of stuff I seem to be doing right now."
Mickelson doesn't have all that much to complain. He's a three-time champion here at Augusta and he plans to watch the rest of it this weekend.
"It's an exciting tournament," he said with a smile. "It'll kind of be my punishment."
