As LeBron James is expected to make his decision today on whether he stays with the Miami Heat or returns to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Carmelo Anthony will also make his decision on whether he will stay with the New York Knicks or bolt to a team like the Los Angeles Lakers in NBA free agency.
According to the New York Daily News, it's being confirmed that Melo will in fact stay in the Big Apple. Knicks fans can now breathe a sigh of relief.
Barring a last change of heart, the Daily News writes, Anthony will make an announcement on Thursday that he is returning to the Knicks. He will be spending his prime years as a member of the team as he hopes to bring a title to the squad that hasn't had one in 40 years.
"He believes in Phil Jackson," a source said.
It makes sense for Anthony to do so. I
made a top 5 reasons post earlier of why Melo should stay. Phil Jackson has been making moves, whether it's the Tyson Chandler trade or the great picks he made in the NBA Draft.
Jackson is looking to make a great roster to compliment Anthony and the triangle offense being run under new head coach Derek Fisher. There's also a chance Anthony can team up with the likes of Pau Gasol, too.
Anthony reportedly told a friend today about his decision. He had been "agonizing over this" for the past week, sources say. We reported that
Anthony was "torn" over what decision to make.
"He will have something for everybody on Thursday," said the friend who was with Anthony before Anthony's scheduled workout with Kevin Durant and Kevin Love in Los Angeles on Wednesday. "He is really torn because this is the biggest decision of his career. But he wants to get it done in New York. He told me he believes in Phil."
With LeBron and Melo's decisions now hopefully expected to be out of the way now within the next 48 hours, we'll finally get to see this free agency period start to roll pretty quickly now.
