Rudy Gay July 2014

Rudy Gay could have opted out and became a free agent this offseason, but instead chose to stay with the Sacramento Kings because of the nice contract payout he has for next season.

Had Gay become a free agent, he says the one team he definitely would not join are the Washington Wizards. Gay says he would no way leave Sactown for Washington as he would have too many ticket requests.

I’d have way too many ticket requests,” he said. “I’d have to have like 100 tickets a night …”

Gay won't be pulling a LeBron James and return to home as he would deal with a bunch of drama while playing on the Wizards. However, it seems like Washington wouldn't want him either as they hope to get another hometown hero in Kevin Durant for 2016.

Plus, it's not like Gay has had aspirations of going back home before. He chose UConn over Maryland during a tough recruiting process for his college days.

Right now, he's focused on what he can do with this young, talented Kings team.

“Right now with the guys we have and the young guys we added I think we’re going in the right direction,” he said.
