Could it finally happen?
Throughout 2014, the rumors have been on fire for the most anticipated boxing fight of at least the past half-decade, in which the two best pound-for-pound boxers — Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao — face off in an epic battle.
We've heard Manny's trainer
predicting it will happen, and even
this. But, of course, there's never been any kind of word really from either camp.
Every year for the past several years, the talk has been running wild, but is it finally set for next year? Mayweather doesn't have much time left. I feel like he will retire by the time he reaches, or maybe even before, his 50th career fight. Pacquiao's clock is ticking as well.
So will it happen? Who knows, but @J23App dropped this on Twitter Monday night:
@J23App is an account about sneakers. He has an app for upcoming Air Jordan sneaker release dates, and he is spot on with them. I wouldn't be surprised if he had an inside source to a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight — and it turns out that he did.
According to him, a Floyd-Manny fight will go down on May 2, 2015. Then, a possible rematch could ensue in September 2015:
The rematch would likely be Floyd's final fight before he finally hangs up the gloves for good. With that, he'd have a chance to finish at a 49-0 record. Of course, the only way for this to happen, according to J23, is if Pacquiao wins his next fight, too.
We don't know who his "buddy" is, but this information is worth noting since it has already gone viral. It would make sense if this were to happen, too. Mayweather does have three fights left on his Showtime contract before he retires in 2015, so this info makes sense.
Come back in May 2015, and we'll see if this actually ends up going down...
