Former Alabama quarterback Blake Sims is looking to make it in the NFL. At 5-foot-11 and 218 pounds, being a QB in the league likely isn't going to work out, which is why he's making a position change.
Sims is trying out for the Washington Redskins, and he is a long-shot to make the roster. However, he has a chance playing at running back or wide receiver.
Redskins head coach Jay Gruden praised Sims:
Positions switches rarely work, but Gruden told reporters that Sims looks like he's been playing running back for a long time, per Mike Jones of The Washington Post. The coach went on to say that Sims is being tried out as a runner because he always made the first guy miss during his out-of-the pocket scampers in college.
Sims could work out in the way Denard Robinson did with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He could also follow the likes of Hines Ward, Antwaan Randel-El, Joshua Cribbs and Julian Edelman as guys to make success position changes after playing QB in college.
Hopefully it pans out for Sims.
