Brooklyn Nets forward Thaddeus Young has informed the team that he will opt out of his contract. He will become a free agent in July.
Despite this, the Nets are hopeful that he will stay and plan to re-sign him during the NBA Free Agency period, according to NJ.com.
Thaddeus Young has informed the Brooklyn Nets he will become a free agent, and general manager Billy King says they want to keep the forward and center Brook Lopez.
Young told the Nets on Monday, bypassing the $10.2 million he would have made next season in the final year of his contract. King says the Nets were expecting the decision.
Young initially began the season with the Timberwolves, but was traded to Brooklyn in part of the deal that sent Kevin Garnett back to Minnesota.
It looks like the Nets will make bringing back center Brook Lopez the top priority, but they hope Young falls in place as well.
