Radamel-Falcao

Well, who saw that coming?

Despite impressing virtually nobody during his dismal season-long loan with Manchester United, Radamel Falcao will have the chance for another crack at the Premier League after Chelsea agreed a similar deal for the striker with Monaco that will see the previously-prolific front-man spend next year at Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year-old managed just four goals in 29 appearances after moving to Old Trafford last summer, and not many expected to see Falcao back in the Premier League next season.

But while United turned down the chance to sign the Colombian on a permanent deal worth a reported £43.2 million, Chelsea have shocked English football and agreed a surprise season-long loan.

With Monaco desperate to shift the striker from their books, returning to the Ligue 1 side was never a realistic possibility next season.

After such a tough first year in England, though, many expected Falcao to return to Spain this summer, either with Real Madrid or Atletico.  But the reigning Premier League champions have now swooped in and snapped up the striker.

Falcao, currently away with Colombia in the Copa America, played alongside Chelsea forward Diego Costa during the pair's time together at the Vicente Calderon, and Blues fans will be hoping the duo can pick up from where they left off at Atletico.

Following the decision to release 37-year-old Didier Drogba at the end of the season, Chelsea hax been in the market for a new striker, but not many could have predicted it would be Falcao who was on Mourinho's radar.

Having scored 70 goals in two sensational years with Atletico, it came as something of a surprise for many to see just how much Falcao struggled at United.

Mourinho will know, though, that he has one of the game's most natural finishers if his new signing can rediscover his best form, and it's no surprise to see the Londoners at 6/4 in the betting odds to retain their title next year.

Despite the presence of Manchester City, United and Arsenal last season, Mourinho guided Chelsea to the Premier League crown with relative ease.

While their rivals will be bolstering their squads in the hope of mounting stronger challenges for the title next season, more signings in the shape of Falcao can only help the Chelsea's hopes of defending their crown.

There might have been a number of reasons behind Falcao's troubles at Old Trafford last season, but nobody could doubt that injuries were the main factor behind the South American's failure to get going in the Premier League.

There might be some smirking at the thought of last year's version of the striker turning up in a Chelsea shirt next season, but United fans will be dreading seeing the man they ridiculed last year come back to haunt them for one of their main rivals.

With a full season of English football under his belt and a full pre-season behind him, a fully-fit Falcao could be a very scary proposition for opposition defences next season, even more with Diego Costa alongside him.
