The first annual NBPA Players Choice Awards were a dud in my opinion, and that was to be expected.
It’s kind of hard to have an award show be taken seriously if the top names in the business don’t even bother to show up.
Allen Iverson was in the building, as the legend was presented with the Game Changer Award for his contributions to the game and basketball culture.
The Answer, who has had a rough go of it the past few years, gave a moving speech on “getting back up” and “continuing to fight.”
“People always say ‘what’s up A.I. and I say the same thing to them 99.9% of the time: I tell them, ‘the same fight, different round.’ And that’s what it is. This world is a world title fight and some rounds, the rounds are days. And some days you’re going to get knocked down and some rounds going to be good, some going to be bad. But the only thing that matters is getting back up and fighting again.”
The speech was epic, and on point for anybody struggling in life right now. As for the show itself, the union needs to get it together or scratch the idea as a whole.
