We have some good news coming out of Denver, but it’s not a new contract for their star wide receiver.
President Barack Obama commuted the sentences of 46 federal prisoners on Monday. Katrina Smith, the mother of Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, was one of those 46 people, according to the Denver Post.
Most of those commuted had been sentenced to at least 20 years for non-violent drug offenses under sentencing guidelines that the Obama Administration believes were “overly punitive.”
Smith has been in federal prison since 2000 along with Thomas’s grandmother Minnie Pearl Thomas after they were convicted of drug trafficking. Smith was offered a deal, but refused to cooperate against her mother, who received two life sentences as a three-time offender.
Katrina Smith will be freed on November 10.
