Dwyane Wade was probably never going to leave the Miami Heat, but the threat always works best when the other side perceives it’s real.
Wade agreed to a one-year, $20 million deal with the Heat yesterday, assuring that he’d play another season with the Heat, establishing a deeper connection with fans and the city of Miami.
“I am extremely proud of my personal contributions in helping to build the HEAT franchise and for bringing three NBA championship wins to our great city,” Wade said in a statement yesterday. “For my entire NBA career, Miami has always been my city and my home. I’m overwhelmed with the love and support the Miami community have consistently shown me and my family throughout the years.”
Wade followed up his statement with a video announcing his return to Miami. Wade ended the video by highlighting his championship successes with the Heat, and referencing Miami as “My City, My Home, My House.”
