The Dallas Mavericks struck gold in the 2015 NBA Free Agency period, signing center DeAndre Jordan away from the Los Angeles Clippers.
Mavs owner Mark Cuban explained how important this signing was for Dallas, as it prevented the team from going into a possible rebuild or tanking mode in the 2015-16 NBA season.
“We wanted to get Wes, he was a target for us all summer, and obviously DeAndre as well. But if we got shut out, we weren’t going to just try to fill the roster,” Cuban said during a recent radio interview with KTCK-AM 1310 in Dallas. “We had the discussion that if we couldn’t get a serious free agent, whether it was one of the guys still out there or some of the guys who already went, then it was time to take a step back.”
The Mavericks have lost some key free agents this offseason, such as guards Monta Ellis and Rajon Rondo, along with Tyson Chandler. However, many believe the Mavs will still make the playoffs next season in the tough Western Conference.
