Haywood’s contract becomes guaranteed in a few weeks, and the team that acquires him will likely release him, saving $10 million in salary cap space. Haywood is likely to retire if waived, according to reports.
"Should Brendan Haywood be waived by Aug. 1st, he has no plans to retire, source tells ESPN. Has been working out w/ UNC alumni this summer," ESPN's Dave McMenamin writes.
