Andre Ward has finally added some clarity to his boxing future, and he’s set to be in the mix on a lot of big time fights and opponents. According to Fight Hype, Ward has signed off on a three-fight deal with HBO that would put him in line to challenge Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev sometime in 2016.
Sources close to the information have informed us that undefeated super middleweight king Andre Ward will return to the ring in the co-main event to the highly-anticipated November 21 showdown between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and former jr. middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Although an opponent has yet to be named, we’re told that the leading candidate is super middleweight contender Rohan Murdock (18-1, 14 KOs). An official announcement could come as early as Monday.
Ward last fought back in June, scoring a 9th round TKO of Paul Smith. The deal signifies a move to light heavyweight for Ward, and all but eliminates a Gennady Golovkin date.
