The real Nigel Hayes finally showed up as Wisconsin pulled off the biggest upset of the 2017 NCAA Tournament by knocking out defending national champions Villanova, 65-62, in the second round to reach the Sweet 16.
The Badgers, which shouldn’t have been a No. 8 seed, were led by Hayes (19 points) and Bronson Koenig (17 points), who was in foul trouble down the stretch. The Wildcats, on the other hand, was led by freshman Donte DiVincenzo, who had 15 points in the loss.
Villanova, the top overall seed in the tournament, went 32-3 on the season, won a fourth consecutive Big East championship and won Big East tournament title a week ago.
Now they're heading home for the tournament.
