This a stunning move, but one that makes sense. Tony Romo is retiring and moving into the broadcast booth, according to an ESPN.com report. Even more shocking is that the Cowboys had finally planned on releasing the injury-plagued quarterback on Tuesday.
Romo, 36, will be in high demand, with reported huge offers coming in from FOX and CBS. Romo missed most of the 2016 season with a broken bone in his back and was replaced by rookie Dak Prescott, who led the Cowboys to a 13-3 record and the top seed in the NFC.
One of my favorite quarterbacks of all-time, Romo has a career record of 78-49, but will always be remembered for his struggles in the postseason.
Romo holds the Cowboys record with 34,183 passing yards and 248 touchdown passes. Romo also holds team records for most 300-yard passing games (46), multiple touchdown pass games (79) and consecutive games with a touchdown pass (38).
