Despite getting destroyed in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the future of the Boston Celtics looks bright. They have a playoff team, the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft, and are basically one player away from being a legit title contender.
Whether it's Paul George or someone else, the Celtics have options. But it looks like they have their eyes on Utah Jazz wing Gordon Hayward in free agency.
According to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Boston Celtics are "really focused on trying to get Gordon Hayward from Utah in free agency."It makes sense for Hayward to join Boston. He would join what many people consider an easier conference, he'll play for a team with a bright future, and he would re-join former college coach Brad Stevens.
Wojnarowski added that he thinks Celtics general manager Danny Ainge will "go really hard after Hayward on July 1."
The Vertical's Chris Mannix has also stated he believes Hayward is the Celtics' top priority as the start of free agency approaches.
"The next step for this team, that's got to be Gordon Hayward," he said on CSN New England's Celtics Pregame Live prior to Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals (h/t NESN.com). "That is a guy who can help this team immediately. And that's a guy I believe is Boston's No. 1 target this summer."
This year's free agency is going to be crazy.
