A one-year rental could turn into a lasting relationship if Paul George enjoys winning in Cleveland, but it could also provide the Indiana Pacers star guard with a whole year to convince James to head to Los Angeles.

These are the dynamics in play after it was announced that George would not be returning to Indiana once he becomes a free agent in the summer of 2018.

After the four-time All-Star informed the organization that he intends to leave next summer in free agency, general manager Kevin Pritchard has started engaging teams about potential deals, including the Cavaliers.

Per The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski:
The Pacers are seeking “a substantial package of talent and draft picks” for George, with talks possibly going beyond Thursday’s NBA draft.
The Lakers are reportedly unwilling to part with any of their young talent to acquire George, and why would they?
