For Reuben Foster, his NFL career could be over just as fast as it started. The San Francisco 49ers star linebacker was charged with felony domestic violence against his live-in girlfriend on Thursday, the Santa Clara DA’s office announced.
Foster faces additional felony charges of forcefully attempting to prevent a victim from reporting a crime and possession of an assault weapon, as well as a misdemeanor for possession of a large-capacity weapon magazine. If convicted, he faces more than 11 years in prison.
“Our focus is on holding accountable those who hurt their intimate partners,” said prosecutor Kevin Smith. “Our office handles between four and five thousand domestic violence cases each year. We only hope that this case illuminates the tragic regularity of the rest.”Foster’s girlfriend alleges that he “dragged her by her hair, physically threw her out of the house, and punched her in the head eight to 10 times," according to the DA’s office.
