TJ McConnell will be back in Philadelphia after putting his heart on display during the NBA Playoffs. 76ers general manager Bryan Colangelo said Friday the team will exercise McConnell’s contract option.

The undrafted point guard is now set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019. McConnell helped extend the Sixers’ postseason with a standout performance (19 points, eight rebounds, five assists) in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
“I think everyone’s expectations for the minutes they want to play should be high,” McConnell said. “But we’ve got a lot of good guys on this team. I obviously want to play as many minutes as I did toward the end of that series, but that’s unfortunately not up to me. So we’ll see what happens this summer and let the cards lie where they go.”It’s too soon to tell what McConnell’s role on the Sixers will look like next season, especially with Markelle Fultz likely to have entire summer to regain his form.
