Tobias Harris is prepared to bet on himself this season, and the result could net him an extra $100 million in free agency. TNT's David Aldridge is reporting that Harris is preparing to join the 2019 free agent class after turning down an $80 million extension from the LA Clippers.
Clippers forward @tobias31 turns down $80 million extension offer from team, per sources. Amicable discussions. But he’ll play out final year of his current deal and be UFA next summer, when he’d be eligible for 5 yrs/$188M max from Clips or 4/$145.5 elsewhere.— David Aldridge (@daldridgetnt) July 22, 2018
Harris will play out the final year of his contract, where he’s owed $14.8 million and hit unrestricted free agency next summer, where he could earn upwards of $188 million over five years in LA, or a four-year, $145.5-million deal on the open market.
Harris, who began last season with the Detroit Pistons, averaged 19.3 points per game during his 32 appearances with the Clippers.
