Reverend Jesse Jackson was in Philadelphia for the “Progressive National Baptist Church Convention,” and he just so happened to pop up on the Eagles, per multiple reports.
.@RevJJackson just told a @NationalCVJ panel he had to leave early to visit @Eagles training camp to talk with players about "their right to kneel" during the national anthem. pic.twitter.com/GohsGmuP6Q— Chris Brennan (@ByChrisBrennan) August 7, 2018
Only the Eagles know if Jackson was here to offer support or advice, but the civil rights leader confirmed that he had in fact sat down with Malcolm Jenkins and Michael Bennett, to name a few.
Chatting with #JeffreyLurie @Eagles, owner at the team’s public practice @LFFStadium today. Mr. Lurie welcomed me as special guest at the team practice. I also met briefly with players @mosesbread72 & @MalcolmJenkins. #KeepHopeAlive! pic.twitter.com/rwmIaYaNgp— Rev Jesse Jackson Sr (@RevJJackson) August 6, 2018
Jackson reportedly wants Eagles players to confirm whether or not they voted as well, before simply protesting.
Jackson said @Eagles and @NFL players “can’t just protest in an idle way. They must declare that they are registered voters.” He is in town for the Progressive National Baptist Church convention, working on voter registration.— Chris Brennan (@ByChrisBrennan) August 7, 2018
He prayed with Malcolm Jenkins over the issue as well.
