However, does Detroit believe in him fully? They are drafting seventh overall in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. General manager Brad Holmes seemed to have hinted at possibly taking a quarterback at that spot.
"The quarterback position in general, what's cool about this year is that they're in all different flavors," Holmes said. "You have a guy that can actually do it all, do it from the pocket, do it with his legs. You have another guy that probably a little bit more does it with his legs, a little bit more of being creative. There's another guy probably does it more from the pocket."So all the different flavors makes it very, very intriguing in terms of when you're looking across the whole scope of the class of these quarterbacks."
Trevor Lawrence will be off the board by the time the Lions pick, but they have a chance at other QBs such as Ohio State's Justin Fields or BYU's Zach Wilson.
This all, of course, could just be smoke since Holmes can't discuss Goff or Stafford until the trade becomes official on March 17.
With the contract Goff, Detroit is likely going to start him. I would not be surprised if they draft a QB still who sits behind Goff, especially if they see that QB could be a future face of the franchise.
