As an Indian-American, my real first taste was the 2011 Cricket World Cup, where I watched India defeat Sri Lanka for their second title. In 2015, Australia won, and England won the most recent one in 2019.
With the rise of the Indian Premier League, professional Twenty20 cricket league, this past decade, ipl betting has taken off. Expect diehard cricket fans to be betting heavily in 2023, likely for host country India.
Now eyes are set for 2023, where India will be hosting again. Being the host country, the country of India automatically qualifies for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. But what about all of the other information?
Let's take a look.
What is the Cricket World Cup?
Also known as the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, it is a one-day international (ODI) championship. There are 10 countries competing in 2023, with 14 countries participating in 2027 and afterward.
2023 will be the 13th edition of the World Cup, with the first one taking place in 1975 in England. The Cricket World Cup takes place every four years, similar to the soccer world cup, the Olympics, and other popular world sporting events.
When Is the 2023 Cricket World Cup?
The 2023 Cricket World Cup is scheduled to take place between October and November 2023.
Who is the Host?
As mentioned before, India will be hosting the 2023 World Cup. It will be the first time the country has hosted the whole tournament, as they partially hosted them three other times in 1987, 1996, and 2011.
Qualifications
10 countries qualify for the tournament. With India automatically making it, it leaves nine spots left.
The route towards qualifying is through the 2020–23 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League tournament. The top seven teams from that Super League will qualify for the World Cup.
This now leaves two spots left, which will be determined by the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier held in Zimbabwe. Five teams will compete in this from June 18 to July 9, 2023, in which only two teams make it.
Format
Per ICC Cricket Schedule, the format is the same as it has been from 1992-2019: every team plays with the remaining other teams in a round-robin (randomly selected team) fashion. Then, four teams will play a semi-final and eventually the top two compete in the final.
